God Still Clothes the Lilies, Lesson 4: Trust in God and His Deliverance
Are you in an overwhelming, hopeless circumstance? Do you have a problem that is constantly on your mind? Do you find yourself continually fretting, worrying, strategizing . . . desperately trying to find a solution?
The fourth lesson and action step to implement in seasons of suffering and uncertainty is:
Lesson #4: Trust in God and His Deliverance
Lesson three in the previous post centered around Psalm 62:5-6. Lesson four picks up with verse seven:
“With God rests my salvation and my glory…” (Psalm 62:7, AMP).
In the last years of my excruciating illness, I finally began to see that my salvation and my glory rested with God. In other words, God saw my way out of that torturous season. It rested with Him. He saw the day I would be sitting here at my desk—out of a wheelchair, out of bed, free of mental anguish—writing to you.
While I writhed in anguish, confined to bed, enduring mental torture so severe I resembled an animal more than a human being, God saw me sitting here at my desk today, no longer writhing from the torture.
I spent years worrying about how I was going to improve. I constantly deliberated all the different treatments available and tried to determine which might hold promise for me. For the longest, I continually tried to figure out what else I should try medically. I thought my health turnaround depended on my efforts, on what I could discover and implement.
You know what? All of my worry and strategizing was a complete waste! Every bit of it! What God ultimately used to deliver me came as a complete surprise. While I kept trying to figure out what medical therapy would fix me, I hadn’t even heard of the treatment God ultimately planned to use. So all my fretting and figuring was pointless!
Yes, all along—while I needlessly worried, fretted, finagled, and strategized—God knew my way out. It rested with Him. He was never worried and plagued with fret and fear, desperately trying to figure out what He was going to do.
Before I even contracted Lyme Disease, God knew:
- That I was going to get Lyme Disease.
- How severe it was going to be—that it would take me captive mentally and physically.
- That He was allowing it in order to “save many lives”—in order to accomplish glorious spiritual fruit in myself and others.
- And He knew exactly when and how He was going to miraculously bring me out of captivity, restore my functioning, and deliver me from torturous illness.
God saw all of this in advance. The future was past tense with Him. It was done. If He wasn’t fretting and worrying and finagling (and He was the only one who could do anything about the it anyway), why in the world would I fret and worry and try to finagle a way out?
I finally realized:
“God is not fretting and trying to finagle a way out for me. My future and my way out rest with Him. Therefore, I should stop my useless strategizing and instead trust Him!”
Your Salvation and Glory Rest with God
Beloved, God sees your way out of this overwhelming, seemingly hopeless, circumstance. Your salvation and your glory rest with Him. He is not fretting or worrying over the solution to your problem, the answer to your need. He is not wringing His hands—and neither should you. He sees you in the future, answer in hand!
Your salvation from this predicament rests with God. He sees your way out. There is no need to fret, worry, or finagle. Rest in His promise. He is busying Himself with your every step:
“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives” (Psalm 37:23, NLT).
The Amplified Bible says that God “busies Himself with his every step.”
God is busying Himself with your every step—with every second of your life. Not a moment—not even your current crisis—is outside His control, beyond His plan, or void of His miracle working power.
